France Day 6 Back to Paris

Today seemed to be a light day, although by the end it really wasn’t. We got an early start to make a 2 1/2 drive back to Paris to Sacre coeur, which was located at the top of the hill of the martyrs. This basilica was built at the beginning of the 20th century to remind the French people of the God that made them the people they are.

After mass we walked around and Monica found a great little restaurant, with a great view and food. In addition I finally drank an Orangina. If you don’t know what it is, you’re missing out. The whole day was spent doing French stuff that I haven’t done. From here we made a driver over to Etienne du Mont. This is considered one of the more beautiful churches in France. It is also the home of St. Genevieve’s relics. She is the patron of Paris, but more importantly she is the patron of Monica’s old parish outside of Philadelphia. I attended this parish early on in our dating with her, and several of her friends from there attended our wedding, which included the very talented musicians. We said a prayer for this parish at the tomb of St. Genevieve and lit a candle for them.

. From here we finally went to our hotel and checked in after some confusion driving around Paris. It felt like my first time driving for Uber in NYC. I learned a couple of moves from our previous Uber ride, and I navigated my way through some annoying traffic and closed streets. We found another nice restaurant for dinner, where I scored an amazing “French Onion” soup, otherwise just known as onion soup here. I had to try duck for the second time today, since it is a dish more rarely seen back home. The meal ended with a pistachio creme brulee and we made a stop by for a drink at our sister hotel before calling a night.
