Italy Day 7 Feast of San Marco, Venice
The day began at a quick pace since we arrived so late in the evening. Thankfully we were only a 6 minute walk to San Marco from our hotel. We attended mass which was presided by the patriarch/bishop and many other priest in attendance to show reverence to their beloved patron. After mass we made our way to the Florian for a light breakfast where we soaked in some of the sights and sounds of San Marco Piazza. From our midday meal we roamed the area for a short bit and caught a boat to the island of Murano in hopes of visiting the glass factory, unfortunately we did not plan correctly and arrived too late. At the very lease we found a couple items of interest on the island and enjoyed the boat ride past the many stops. We made our way back to San Marco where we went on a night tour of San Marco Basilica and the lowering of the flag, as they were also celebrating Italian independence day as well on April 25.
The tour was a phenomenal intimate visit away from the normal large lines and crowds of tourist who frequent this destination, but I was extremely disappointed and frustrated as the tour guide pretended to know Christian history, but at the most was a very misinformed person on the history Christian faith. The knowledge of the history of the building and Venice was great.
After the tour and laying my hand on the altar and tomb of St. Mark, we went and enjoyed another great meal with great people as this restaurant that exceeded our expectations, after almost falling for several tourist traps. The nice man at the end of a small walkway and alley was very accommodating to Monica, and offered her a free drink.
We ordered lasagna which was solid, and a antipasto combination which was awesome, and a lobster spaghetti that lived up to the fresh seafood of the island. At the start of the meal they gave us a complimentary drink which was native to Venice, and as we closed the meal they gave us the beloved Limoncelli, an Italian dessert drink.
The 3 men that served us were exceptional and truly the most fun and best service of our trip, next to the amazing Ricardo at Badia a cultibuono. From here we turned it in for the night and prepared to make our way to Milan the next day.
Initially this would be a turn off, but they rated well on google, and this seemed to one of those sides street places with great food everyone talks about. It was. If you would like to see more pictures from Italy click here.
