France Day 2 Omaha Beach and Normandy D-Day visit
This morning I woke up rested from the travels, we grabbed some breakfast and made our way west to check out some of the history behind D-Day since it is the 75th anniversary of this pivotal day in World War II. Since the drive was nearly 3 hours it gave us time to watch “Saving Private Ryan” together. I listened for the most part, but it set the mood for where we were heading. I have been very moved by reflecting on all of this during the past 6 months, to think if we had lost this battle, we could’ve lost the war to the Nazi’s. The world and our country are a better place thanks to the great sacrifice many made in this war, especially on this day and this battle. In the mix of this visit however, we experienced a similar disappointment of all the museums being closed for the holiday. At the very least however I was able to accomplish what I came to do, and that was to pray a rosary along these beach fronts that I walked in thanksgiving for the sacrifice many made for people like myself, in addition for peace to any unrest spiritually that may still be lingering from this battle.
From here we made our way to Lisiuex. Along the way we listened to some of the stories from living survivors of D-Day. This interview from the Ben Shapiro show is what inspired me to visit the Normandy Beaches during this trip and anniversary year. Upon arriving in Lisieux, most everything was closed. After a visit to the cathedral and some driving around we settled on a nice little authentic crepe place. The food was authentic and the experience was nice and cozy. Beyond this it was a restful day.
