Sicily Day 3 Everyone is here

We began the day by sleeping in and recovering from the travels, it was too cozy with the weather not to. When we finally decided to wake up, I decided to pour a small glass of wine for us from the bottle they give you in the room, to chip away at it, too good not to. In addition we did not have any coffee within reach. From here Sergio (who is in Rome) said he was arriving by 1 and his brother Alessio and wife Domenica said they would be there from Milan shortly after.

After we had a nice lunch with the family, Sergio took us down to the center of the old town to show us around. We grabbed a coffee, saw the Cathedral which was built by Roger 2 of the Normans in thanksgiving to a win in battle. The design is a mix of Norman and Arabic styles. We also enjoyed walking along the coastal city wall where the 1988 Best International Oscar film “Cinema Paradiso” shot a great love scene from Sergio’s description. He was then inspired to direct us in some photos of our own with the romantic landscape. I almost forgot to mention, I scored a cashmere hat, which had me looking local immediately.

After mass we met at a local pizza restaurant and had a beautiful dinner and lots of conversation. It was that moment Olive Garden promises, but rarely delivers with authenticity. Monica and I had a Foccacia Pizza as well as a standard. The standard had pistachio on it with was different. I need to take better notes. We wrapped things up from here and went home to rest for a walk to the top of the hill in the morning where a castle is. For more pictures click here
